Volunteer overseas

Volunteering for one of our overseas projects is a life changing adventure and an experience you will never forget. We send volunteers from the UK to provide support to our partners around the world.

Volunteers are welcomed into the local community and get involved in tasks such as running workshops with our teachers and helping run summer schools for the local children. You will learn from them, and they will learn from you. Our overseas opportunities build confidence and develop important life-skills. They also teach our volunteers about global issues and help them see the links between their own lives and the lives of other people around the world.

Sometimes we receive funding to take groups of 16-25yr olds to our projects. We will advertise these opportunities here on our website and over social media. Most often volunteers will fundraise to raise money to cover their travel and living expenses and any resources needed for the programme. We provide support and advice to our volunteers on raising the money and for preparing for their trip.

How to apply

Follow our sign up instructions to register your interest and find out whether there are any teams heading overseas any time soon.

One we’ve heard from you and we have a programme we think would suit you, we will get in touch and invite you to HQ for an informal chat. This is a chance for us to get to know you and find out about your motivations for volunteering, and for you to ask us any questions.

If you are accepted on to the project, you will receive induction and orientation training here in Cardiff. The training is essential as it will prepare you for your trip and will cover things such as how to volunteer sensitively and also introduce you to the culture you will be living in and the work you will get involved in. The training is also an opportunity for you to ask us any questions about vaccinations, food, where you’ll sleep and so on!

On arrival back in the UK we will meet up (once we’ve all recovered) to debrief. This rounds up the experience and gives us a chance to hear about your trip. You’ll then have the opportunity to join our volunteer alumni and get involved with Safe at home.
