Hi, I’m Luke, and I’ve decided to take on the challenge of running a marathon with only 6 weeks of training! Like a lot of people in lockdown I have found my feet when it comes to running. It may be an unpopular opinion amongst gym goers but I’ve actually found that I’m enjoying running and training in the fresh air more than I would be training in a gym.

I have been running several times a week, setting myself little challenges and goals. I have run a few half marathons and even 17 miles when I started to think, why not just run a marathon? I was aware that there wouldn’t be any official ones running for a while and I didn’t want to wait that long. So I calculated the route and scheduled the training and on the 4th of July, I will be running a Marathon around Cardiff for the SAFE Foundation.

I understand how difficult it must be for charities during this period especially when they cannot conduct their usual fundraiser events. So if I was going to run a marathon then I may as well try and raise some money to help support one. SAFE is an amazing charity that helps to support vulnerable communities both at home and across the world. They help to increase people’s access to education, health and other basic human right necessities.

The marathon will be on the morning of the 4th of July. I am aiming to raise £262 which represents the distance I'll be running (26.2 miles). It would be amazing if anyone could show their support by donating to help me to achieve my target. I’ll also be posting the route if anyone fancies cheering me on along the way!

Be sure to follow my progress on Safe's Instagram & Facebook page! Wish me luck!
