If you're looking for somewhere to eat in Cardiff and enjoy yummy, healthy foods, this list is for you. We've gathered our favourite ethical, independent cafés around the city that you must try!

Wild Thing

Located in Grangetown, this independent café focuses on all things plant based to encourage us to eat more veggies. The 100% vegan menu includes sweet and savoury pancakes as well as a yummy Whole-food Bowl and Soup of the Day.

The café is striving to make a positive change to the planet by using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. They also run projects like cooking classes to help end food poverty in their own fun, unique way. Helping the planet and eating delicious food at the same time = win.

Anna Loka

Labelled the ‘first vegan café in Cardiff’, Anna Loka uses fresh, organic and local ingredients to whip up their menu. You won’t be disappointed with your dining experience with the healthy, tasty dishes ranging from breakfasts to wraps to burgers, and a range of organic juices and shakes. Yum!

They’re open in the evenings too AND they do student discount. Check it out on Albany Road - this place is not to be missed.

Blanche Bakery

This aesthetically pleasing café is definitely Instagram worthy. The vegan doughnuts on offer are not to be missed, ranging from mint chocolate to banana to red velvet. Even better, they’re made fresh every morning! They do a selection of other sweet treats, a range of coffees and a small but delicious vegan brunch menu.

You’ll find it hard not to take pictures of your food in this little gem!

With both a restaurant on City Road and a stall in Cardiff Central Market, Milgi’s filling dishes are both creative and delicious. The whole menu caters for vegan and vegetarian diets; the imaginative menu takes yummy foods like jackfruit, beetroot and falafel and turns them into tasty plates of goodness.

You must try their vegan desserts as well – go for the chocolate orange cheesecake.

They have an amazing yurt out the back for an alternative dining experience and they even do a vegan Sunday dinner!

Atma’s mission statement is to eat and live consciously, focusing on a healthier lifestyle. Catering for both vegans and vegetarians, the food here uses ethical, seasonal food to create organic, karma-free meals. They do a variety of salads, wraps and a range of burgers  – try the Maha Mexican made from a spicy lentil burger. As well as a café, Atma offers yoga classes and meditation to promote a happy life.

Pop down to Capitol Centre in the city for an experience you won’t forget in a hurry!

The Early Bird

Situated in the heart of Cathays, this cosy café uses locally sourced ingredients and makes everything fresh in-house. The menu dedicates itself to brunch including avocado and eggs on toast, and French toast with your choice of topping. Early Bird boasts a cabinet of tasty treats, again baked in-house. The chocolate twists are incredible so definitely give them a go!

The café has very limited seating so plan your visit and go at a quiet time – it fills up quickly!

Crumbs Kitchen

A family run business, Crumbs have cafés in both Cardiff and Swansea. The café boasts an extensive salad bar of vegetarian and vegan food, available to eat in their cosy café or to take away. Located in The Morgan Quarter arcade, the homemade menu was created with a healthy lifestyle in mind, the tasty dishes ranging from jacket potatoes and soups to my personal favourite the vegetarian chilli. Crumbs uses organic, fresh produce so they’re always popular with locals and tourists alike.
