What is EID AL FITR?

As the month of Ramadan ends on the last day of fast the Prophet Muhammed marks the end of Ramadan by celebrating breaking the fast.

History of EID AL FITR

Eid Al Fitr represents the celebration of the holy month fasting and reflecting.

On Eid families and friends United together wearing their nice clothing and dress up. Families and friends have lots of food and a gathering that allows happiness and brings joy. On this day individuals also give money known as Zakat (charity) to the poor, distribute food and sweets too. Children receive gifts from elders such as their relatives on the day.

In some cases Eid Al Fitr lasts up to 2-3 days in some countries as it’s a festival celebrating breaking the fast as Ramadan comes to an end on 29th or 30th day of the holy month of fasting.

Why is Eid AL Fitr Special?

During the holy month of Ramadan individuals stay away from distractions such as gatherings, parties or any such. Ramadan allows everyone to reflect on making themselves a better person.

Eid Al Fitr allows individuals to celebrate the good intentions of how far they’ve become spiritually and acknowledge that distractions are not a necessity.

This day brings families and friends together and makes everyone feel at peace.

How I Celebrate Eid Al Fitr

I invite family round, we have dinner and a great catch-up. We have lovely range of food such as chicken to lamb and of course chapati too.

I do receive gifts from my elders but mainly I enjoy spending time with my uncles and aunty. I may not fast due to personal reasons but I understand why fasting is hugely important and why Eid Al Fitr is celebrated.

This day is very special because we reflect on the good deeds we all do during the holy month of Ramadan and we enjoy one another’s company.

Eid Al Fitr brings a new beginning and happiness too.
