SAFE PROJECTS

Background

The SAFE Foundation is committed to assisting indigenously run projects in the developing world that work towards poverty reduction, the improvement of health, and access to education in small communities.

We feel that a people centred approach to development is vital for the empowerment of local people, and the implementation of truly appropriate and sustainable programmes.

We assist projects that come to us for help because their ability to access mainstream aid is limited by such factors as their size, their remote or isolated location, or their status in political, social or cultural arenas.

Many organisations that make proposals to the SAFE Foundation are very small and consequently operate in a very specific context, which is shaped over many generations by social, cultural, economic and political dynamics.

We feel it is vital to the growth of these programmes that they are run by those who understand deeply and have an absolute empathy of life in the community.

In other words, the input and autonomy of local people is paramount and so we assist by funding programmes with strong strategies in place, by way of grant making, resource donations or the supply of educational materials.
